SMART Volunteering_Learner Pack- NGOs
Detailed description of the activity This is an activity to show a two-stage approach that can be used with volunteers: a first step during the first contacts with the volunteer, to evaluate the skills she wants to develop and the second one to be implemented after/during the volunteering period to support her in the process of job search. Step 1 Tell participants to imagine the job position they would like to carry out. Once they have thought of their ideal position, they will be asked to list at least 5 competencies they consider necessary to carry out that job and explain why they think these competencies are important for that position. You can now discuss with participants about their proposals by asking questions like: - Do you think you already have these competencies? - Is there any competence you have but that you should improve? How could you improve it? - Which type of volunteering do you think that could be useful to help you develop these competencies? - Etc. *You can use here The Wheel of Skills provided in a previous unit Step 2 Participants would now be asked to compare the list of desired competencies elaborated in Step 1 with the results of their Self-assessment grid, used for the evaluation of competencies gained during volunteering. Discuss with participants: - Do competencies match now? - Do you think your situation has improved compared to the starting point? - Do you feel more confident now to apply for your desired position? - What else do you think you could still improve? How? - Etc. Type of activity Face-to-face Name of the activity : Matching Skills and Interests Module : 4 for TG2
