Circles of Skills Exercise – Part 2 Diagnosis What are the 7 key transferable skills that your new volunteer can bring as a Migrant Woman? After the interview, you should be able to, as a support worker or manager, complete the 7 key skills that each migrant woman can bring to your organisation. Each migrant volunteer is an individual and is therefore unique. When discussing with them their volunteer role, you should be gathering information about their past experiences and the skills they have developed. At the end of the discussion you should be able to complete the Circles of Skills exercise to establish which 7 key skills this person can bring to your/an organisation. The skills you are looking for may be different depending on many factors including the end user, client or requirements of your own organisation. Brainstorming the key skills your organisation requires, prior to recruitment of any volunteers, may also help you in matching the skills successfully. There is no set framework or benchmark to show the skills that migrants have or bring with them. However here are some examples of the skills many migrant women may have: Resilience; understanding of diverse communities; language skills; understanding of different cultures; diverse occupational and educational skills; technology skills; … and many other skills which will be identified through the Circles of Skills exercise.
