UNIT 3 – SMART Volunteering Description This unit 3 SMART Volunteering will focus on the core organisational competences including cross- cultural communication, teambuilding and teamwork skills as well as intrapersonal and interpersonal skills needed to foster the organisations’ Corporate Social Responsibility. It aims at allowing participants to appreciate, develop and understand: - the skills needed to be a socially responsible entrepreneur - the need of cultural awareness in the workplace and its benefits towards gender equality - corporate social responsibility, which, like any other goal and objective, helps the firm only when aligned with its strategy, vision, and mission - verbal and non-verbal cross-cultural communication and develop interpersonal and intrapersonal skills Learning Outcomes After the completion of Unit 3 SMART Volunteering, you will be capable of: ▪ Recognising and understanding that we all have different values shaped by our diverse cultural backgrounds ▪ Becoming aware of their own cultural values, beliefs and perceptions ▪ Understanding ways in which different types of identities (gender, age, racial, ethnic, national, geographical, historical, linguistic, etc.) impact on communication with others ▪ Recognising the different ways a person can consciously and unconsciously communicate ▪ Understanding the key role of culture in all communication processes ▪ Identifying verbal and non-verbal communication elements and strategies across cultures ▪ Identifying key elements and the role of stereotypes in communicating with migrants ▪ Identifying communication and intrapersonal skills (empathy, active listening) ▪ Developing social skills to interact with migrants at the work place ▪ Appreciating the tangible benefits of an intercultural working environment ▪ Understanding the roles of vision, mission, and values in the Corporate Social Responsibility ▪ Understanding that corporate social responsibility, like any other goal and objective, helps the firm only when aligned with its strategy, vision, and mission.
